Subject: Indonesia: Sandals for Justice
***Geser ke bawah untuk edisi Bahasa Indonesia*** Dear friends across Indonesia, http://www.avaaz.org/en/indonesia_sandals_for_justice/?vl The police are failing to provide even the most basic legal services. At the same time, officers overstepping the law get away with murder while citizens without money or influence face harsh punishment. But while A.A.L. has been released and the officers responsible for his mistreatment got a token slap on the wrists, more and more reports of disproportionate police behaviour are surfacing. There's no civilian bureaucrat at its head, and the National Police Commission lacks the powers to deal effectively with police abuses. But President Yudhoyono is ultimately responsible for the police and he is said to be following recent developments. If we target him directly now he has the opportunity to respond to our outcry and start a meaningful reform process. In early January, more than 100 pairs of sandals were delivered to the police headquarters in Jakarta, embarrassing our law-enforcers in front of national and international media. And police chief Pradopo is due to be questioned in parliament next week over the excessive use of force in the handling of recent demonstrations and clashes. We need to show the President and the police that this is not a flash in the pan public protest. Click to below to build a massive petition for urgent police reform and send this to everyone: http://www.avaaz.org/en/indonesia_sandals_for_justice/?vl From pressing for the release of political prisoners in Burma to stopping the illegal eviction of the Occupy movement, citizens across the world working together have fought injustices -- and won! Now it's in our hands to stop Indonesian police abuse -- if we unite now our voices will be heard and we can prevent more violence. With hope, Alice, Antonia, Morgan, Ricken, Caroline, Pascal and the entire Avaaz-team More information: Indonesia outrage at boy's conviction for sandal theft (BBC)

http://nasional.kompas.com/read/2012/01/10/18292383/Komisi.III.DPR.Panggil.
